When designing a poster for a Jazz festival, the target is to make the graphic scream “JAZZ” at first glance. The typical instruments used in Jazz are the saxophone, trumpet, piano, guitar, trombone and drums. I depicted a saxophone in my design because to me, it is the most symbolic instrument of the genre. I also used a piano to represent music coming from the saxophone. The transparency and warm colors of the music trail shows that the music will be smooth, mellow and relaxed. The musician is shaded dark because jazz is also referred to as the blues, which gives it a mysterious aspect. A beach makes the perfect background because of the festival's location at Laguna Beach. The sunset shows that the festivities will continue into the night. The festival will be lively and filled with color and music, so I wanted to make sure that really came through in the design. The festival's name, dates, location and website are prominently featured on the poster. A list of musicians is also included to spark enthusiasm from fans. The graphics on the poster are eye-catching and representative of the fun and music that the festival will hold.
